Thread Starter
Hi Gurus

My system makes a noise and hangs..i hate to press the power button for a while to shut it down.
I called up the Toshiba tech support..they said...it is because of 79 processes running in my system. I have windows xp.
Please suggest me what to do and how to do..if there is any software which can remove and fix this issue tell me.
I have tried some anti spywares..no help

Also, can you describe the noises it makes when it shut downs. Is it 1 long beep, some short beeps, etc. Those beeps pretty much tell you exactly what's wrong.

79 processes is a lot by any standard. Toshiba is definitely one of those companies guilty of loading down their new PCs with tons and tons of garbage software that all has to load up with Windows for some reason.

Start by uninstalling ANY and ALL software from 'Add or Remove Programs' in the Control Panel that you do not use. Keep it that simple. If you don't use it, chuck it.

Check to see how much this cuts down on your running processes. If the number is still high, let's say over 50-55, then it's time to cut down on your startup items by going to Run and typing 'msconfig'. This will take you to the configuration screen where you will notice that there is a 'Startup' tab. Not everything in this list is clearly labeled but do your best to identify things that you know you don't need and uncheck their boxes. This process will cut down on the number of programs that will startup with Windows and run in the background in some way, shape, or form.

I hope this helps although without system specs and a more detailed description of the problem, I could very well be going about the solution from the wrong angle.

Ok, we indeed need more info about this issue.

For now, I parked this thread in the Intel - General system. Please fill out your system specs so we know better what's going on

Thank you
