High NB temps?

Thread Starter
Hi, I just recently had the side off my case and decided to check the temps with my temp gun. I dont know if its actually that high but my NB was around 68C and reached 74C at one point, these high or normal? btw I attached a photo to show the NB cooler, its a stock low profile, non fan thing. And i think that my NB and SB are kind of the same, like a hybrid or something.

is it that grey/silver thing that says Asus on it between the GFX cards?...I don't think adding the heat from the cards is helping it

That IS a weird board. 72 seems quite high, but depending on the board, might be reasonable. My DFI BI can get quite hot.

can you ziptie a 40 mm fan on top of that sink?

Yeah its the silver heatsink in the middle. I don't think id be able to zip tie a 40mm on, but i've got a PCI exhaust fan lying idle, so i might fashion something out of that.

its normal for that board, that a ASUS m2nx sli board, you need to put a better cooler on that, even a 40mm fan helps a lot.
(that was the first board i nuked)
Edit- oh yes, you can lap that cooler, helps a bit, or get a Thermalright Hr05 for it

Sconeboy, that 80mm intake fan probably isn't bring in enough airflow to cool down your chipset. Not sure what the thermal limits are with your chipset but I know the nForce 4 chipset can handle above 70C. My current chipset cooler is the TR-HR05-SLI found here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835109131. It cools quite well and allows you to attach a 70mm fan via zip ties.

Good luck

sT3V3, it really depends where the chipset die is at but the HR05-SLI is designed to fit in a case with two video cards. If he uses the regular HR05 with a fan then it might come in contact with one of the video cards. Just a thought...
