My Raptor is getting full - Page 3

Two 150GB in Raid0 = 300GB of space? I thought that would be 150GB of space, only faster?

So it actually does double the space as well....hmm, I learned something new. I guess, looking at the concept, that it makes sense.

So it's a risk for me to pick up another Raptor?

Not a risk at all. You will have to delete all the data on your first raptor when you install RAID 0 though. I say go for it

The first 36gb raptor of mine was more than enough for me in xp, but when I made the switch to the fatty known as vista, I needed more space. So I ordered another raptor, and I never knew that RAID could be so easy. It also helped my load times and just overall speed as well.

I Upgrade after 60% full.

So yes, 2x 150GB raptors in Raid 0 would be the best choice for you.. but you will have to reformat the drive completely to set that up.

It will give you 300GB of space... well technically 279GB because thats just how drives work, and will be roughly 2x faster.

I've been planning on doing a reformat anyway, since I did the Rampage bios mod, but I've been lazy.

This will give me the impetus I need to get it done.

Wow... 100 GB of programs and O/S? Geez.. .that's alot.

You sure you don't have some data files swimming around in there that could be moved to a separate "storage drive"?

You must have alot of games and applications on your PC. Personally, every now and then I clean off all of the old games and apps that I don't use anymore and free up space that way. 100 GB of these sure seems a bit excessive... but that's just based on the types of apps that I use.

Well, I don't think I have a HUGE amount of stuff on it. A bunch of games, a few benchmarking apps and some vid/photo editing stuff.

I don't even have M$ Orifice installed...

Anyway, I'll dig some more and see what's up...

I see...

However, even with a bunch of full game installs, I'd think that it would take ALOT of games to fill a 100 GB of space.

Considering that the average DVD game probably holds less than 9 GBs of data per disk (the size of a dual layer DVD), you could install several of those before running out of space.

One think I've seen though... when you do Windows updates, it does sometimes leave alot of leftover files on your HD. I wonder if some of those can be cleaned off if you need the space?

More or less... if worse came to worst, you could always plop a 500+ GB drive in there for around $100 and continue installing stuff to your heart's delight.

However, most apps on DVD are compressed. So while the disk is only about 9gb of data, the footprint on your HDD may be alot bigger. I have Flight Simulator X and some expansion packs and it is over 25gb.

That's serious.

Most games I have on DVD don't use the whole DVD for the game install files. The DVD is usually filled with all the "extras" that they can't fit on a normal CD install.

Like I said earlier... maybe I'm not playing the same games or using the same apps that take goo gobs of space like the OP of this thread.
