Would these drives work for RAID?

Thread Starter
I already have this drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136098

I'm building a new system and have enough cash for the other HDD now but I'm tired of waiting for the mail. I can pick up this one at BestBuy
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136039

The only difference I can are the 8mb cache vs the 16mb cache but would the work together for RAID or do they have to be identical?

Yes it will work, but the drive with 16 cache will be disabled to only 8 cache.

a modern SATA/RAID controller should be able to handle it. I would not expect too many problems. The time that drives had to be completely identical is over.

However, no guarantees

they will work together in RAID. Will most likely use the lower cache speed tho

QFT, the lower cache of the two drives will be what is used, seeing as the larger cache can't magically appear on the drive with the smaller cache
