8800GTX's & Gskill Ram?

Thread Starter
system specs
Intel QX6700 (not overclocked)
8 gigs of Gskill ram
EVGA 680i LT SLI motherboard
EGVA 2x 8800gtx (sometimes in SLI)
1000watt Galaxy power supply

Ok I have 8gigs of Gskill Ram and two 8800GTX cards. Between the two I seem to be having some SLI issues and it's driving me nuts I am not really sure what to do about it. Finding out where the issue is has not been easy and I really do not know what is causing it.

My video cards are EVGA 8800gtx's when I turn SLI off everything runs fine performance is a lot lower but nothing crashes. When I turn SLI on games work for awhile then go into a sound loop. Video cards are at about 70c when this happens.

Now this is why I am leaning towards the ram even though I can run memtest86 for 24 hours with ZERO errors. My motherbaord was auto setting the ram to 1.85v. I bumped it up to 1.9v and at first it seemed like all my SLI issues went away but the next day it started again. However my games run alot longer than they did before. So if anyone has any ideas or has had issues with Gskill ram it would help out a lot. This high end rig is starting to be a high end paper weight!

When I went from 2GB (2x1) to 4GB (4x1) ram on my previous setup, I had to up the ram volt by 0.02v and the NB volt by 0.05v. Your NB might just need a bit more juice when SLI is turned on (which, if Im correct also causes more stress on the NB).

Hope it helps

I am not entirely sure what the NB is... I don't see anything like that in the bio only thing I see in voltages that looks like it could be it is the nForce SPP?

Yes, that is likely the NB voltage.

And as Wattes has said, SLI is more of a load on the NB.

NB = North Bridge. It's called MCP (Memory Controller Hub) on nForce boards (like yours).

And the SB (South Bridge) is called SPP (System Platform Processor) on nForce boards.

Ok I found it, it was not in the voltage settings it was in the clock frequency menu.

One other thing I noticed that I never noticed before. My motherboard says SLI ready memory not detected....... Could that be a cause for the issue??

Well this computer still has the issues with running in SLI mode. Certain games work fine but for the most part id say 95% of the games that should work with SLI cause my system to hard lock with sound looping. It just does not seem to want to run SLI its rock solid stable just running one card but soon as the SLI is flipped on the system freaks out in games and locks.

Just thinking about upgrading my system. How is the new EVGA Nforce 790i motherboard? Looking to up my ram to ddr2000. Also looking to upgrade my video card is the 9800GX2 worth it or should I wait for the next line of Nvidia cards?
