Blank screen after windows logo screen.

Thread Starter
Hi guys I encountered a problem last night. I updated my windows media player. It downloaded everything and installed it and when it restarted my comp. i would see everything up into the window logo screens load. I see the screen it loads and then the screen is black. It doesnt say no signal its just black. I tried going into safe mode but it just hangs there when loading the files. I tried putting in a xp cd to use the recovery tool and it goes no hdd found. Does anyone know a solution and I really dont want to reformat my raid drives which has the xp installed.

Sounds like your videocard driver.

I believe when loading windows hold Shift or was it F9 to make the video driver go to Standard driver

Are you overclocked atm? if so, try stock, just to elminate it being the possibility. Also try testing ram. After we are 99% sure the hardware isn't phailing we can work out the software part.

Yea, I was playing with Drivers when I first got my notebook and had this problem, sometimes it would just go to black screen after the loading bar in vista, after many drivers and finally coming across the 174.74s I havent had the problem since. Also what I did was just reboot the computer and it might take a try or two but it would eventually load. Also I was always able to get into safe mode.

You would test your ram using memtest86. It doesn't require a new computer jut google memtest86+ and download the ISO, burn it on a disk, boot it up and let the tests run.

If you can get to another computer and copy some files, do some hard drive diagnostics. Western digital has a program called data lifeguard diagnostics. You can either burn the program to cd or copy it onto a floppy. This can check your drives for errors and such. Thats what I would do first.
