Well theres a batch of defective eVGA 8800 cards. The memory is factory clocked to 950, however games give the RED screen of death, soo I underclocked this lemon.

Its hard for me to RMA because #1 Ill be down, #2 , its too much hassle in my situation....

So, does anyone remember when I was saying how if he received two identical video cards that EVGA would prefer that he send the extra one back and how somebody was trying to tell me that EVGA couldn't care less and would just tell him to keep it if he decided to tell them?

Now, granted, we don't know what was in that 2nd box, but since they retrieved it, I'm willing to bet everything that it was an identical video card (why else would they have stopped the shipment?) And so this proves that I was right after all that companies really do care about things like this. I knew it all along, but I just wanted to wait for this moment so I could say "see, I told you so." Nobody ever listens to me. lol

So, as we can see, if EVGA never discovered the error, then the wisest decision would have been to call EVGA and let them know. They would likely have scheduled a UPS pick-up, and all that would have been needed to be done was to leave the package by the front door and the rest would be taken care of. Not only that, but they may have rewarded the honesty in some way (no, not in the form of a video card, or some other expensive item). Maybe a valuable coupon... yeah, "big deal", right? It can be quite a big deal.

You see, I worked for a phone-order/internet-order catalog company where I ran into this kind of thing more than you might think (busy holiday season). We were instructed to tell them to leave their package somewhere where the UPS or FedEx driver could easily find it, and then we were to reward them with a discount off their next order, or if we thought it worthy, we could send them something for free upon manager's approval based on the circumstances. Those customers were the management's favorites. They helped save the company money! I think the most common occurrence is when somebody would receive their order plus somebody else's order, and then following in at a close second were duplicate orders. When they'd call asking what to do, I'd make sure to tell them how awesome that is that they didn't just keep the merchandise. They could keep it, or they could sell it and make money off it. But they had enough respect for the company to inform us of the mistake. So, we'd schedule a pick-up, and also, for orders sent to the wrong address, we'd immediately create a free order for the customer who didn't receive their merchandise so they would get it as soon as possible. Right after that, we would call them to let them know of the delay, and that we have shipped their order using Overnight or Next Day Air. And then all that needed to be done with the retrieved merchandise was to restock it, instead of reshipping it. I always liked it when we ran into customers like that.

Granted, I didn't work for EVGA, but this company cared a great deal about this kind of thing, and showed it in the way they rewarded their customers, and I personally showed it in the way I spoke with them. I always thought it was very cool of them to say "hey, this customer isn't going to get their stuff!", or "you sent me a duplicate order, what should I do?" Those were my favorite customers, and I always looked up to them, and respected them the most, even though I respected all of my customers.

So anyway. noname, I'm glad EVGA didn't make a mistake wiith your RMA!

You can't keep something that's sent to you by mistake. That's simply theft. It's not a 'free' item; it's a stolen item.
