BUZZ KILL: evga sending me tw....DEAD - Page 5

I once ordered a subwoofer and was sent two by mistake. The company realized what had happened because of the shipping weight of my package. So the call me and ask it I would send it back, and I was like "sure, no problem". I then get online to check my credit card statement and saw that they went back and charged me for the second one! So I called my credit card company to let them know that was an unauthorized charge and just kept the subwoofer.

moral of the story is EVGA could realize what happened and bill you for the second one. I know in the fine print of their advance RMA rules they state that they will charge you the full price of the replacement if you send them in an altered or wrong card.

You assume there is one, right truth. There is not; there are a lot of moralities in the world. I've been screwed by corporations so much, all my farts are SBDs. AT&T screwed me out of $300 for a technical violation of my 2 yr phone contract. Toys 'r' us screwed me when they force-bundled three useless games with my Wii. WalMart screws employees out of benefits all the time. Major corporations standard business ethic is: if you can get awa with it to profit, do it. Hands down. No exceptions.

Case in point, when I was 23 or so, compusa sold me a $450 ati card for $30. I was stoked at first, and then I wrestled with my conscience all day. I was worried since they had "cameras" and I used my credit card, that they might "find" me and get arrested. Finally I returned it, and an old woman told me my mother raised me right; woohoo. I hate my mother. I paid full price for the card, but it wouldn't drive my HDTV, so I returned it the next day. The SAME woman charged me a $40 restocking fee. When I asked her if compusa would have ever found me, she said, "No chance, we would have written it off as employee loss" as I handed over 40 clams.

Free crap = TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN.

I don't assume. I know.

Their corruption doesn't justify your corruption. It just makes you as bad as they are.

First of all, did I not mention I RETURNED the darn thing? I just wish I hadn't; I wouldn't now, because I've been shafted so many ways.

Next, read "The Prince," which, by the way, does NOT contain the phrase "the ends justify the means" anywhere in the book.

Then, I can't agree it would make me just as bad. We're talking about a total volume of sales from a business, a volume that has unethical greed built directly into its ethos. Corporations are treated as legal individuals with all the privileges and rights of an actual person, which is the legal basis of why Enron was able to screw so many people, for one. CEOs and executives hide behind corporate law to commit crimes all the time.

Finally, if you can't accept the practical over the pseudo-religiously ethical, you do not *know* what is right for everyone on the planet. How do you know? Are you somehow not bound by the laws of space, time, and fallibility like the rest of us? Are you Jesus, Muhammad, or Shiva? You can't KNOW absolute morality without living in someone else's shoes, someone of a different race, gender, or nationality, which is not easy if not impossible. The idea that there is one absolute ethic governing all people is absurd.

This is about making a wise decision instead of a foolish one.

If you want to support being dishonest, then fine. That's all on you. But don't cut me down for being honest and for supporting good values. Your attitude shows me that you'd much rather be dishonest and selfish with this scenario. But there again, that's all on you. You can do as you want. I'm just trying to defend the truth.
not atall 5cheese, i totally support being honest, and i am not 'cutting you down' for being so, i applaud you as most people are not honest, my point is that the corps dont give a toss one way or the other, this is why i said 'naive'...look at it this way; you run a company, you sell units of your stock at $100 each, you sell 100 units per month(100x100=10000),lets say you make 20% on each unit(20% of 10000=2000), of that you have 10% errors(of this kind=200), now, how much does it cost to employ people to deal with the returns, test the returns to make sure that its not the buyer at fault and not the merchandise, resend replacements, or the origional item, it is just not worth it to these big corps, time the above by 10, or 1000....
