Perpendicular phunk master Hitachi, has now announced its plan to release a brand new Ultrastar hard drive. Targeting the enterprise segment, the upcoming 3.5-inch Ultrastar 15K450 makes use of perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology and offers both high transfer speeds,increased storage and reliability.
The drive, which works at 15,000 rpm, has four platters summing up to 450GB worth of storage, a 16MB buffer, and features a 3.6 ms average seek time. Set to be available with either a 3Gb/s Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or a 4Gb/s Fibre Channel (FC) interface, the Ultrastar 15K450 weights in 750 grams and is equipped with technologies like Rotational Vibration Safeguard, that ensure steady, safe and quiet work.
Hitachi will start shipping the Ultrastar 15K450 will be shipping later this quarter.
