Do it. AP Java is hard, but if you don't mind learning a bit outside of class you should have no problem keeping up.

Actually, The AB exam won't be removed until the year after the next year. The teachers teach you enough to take the A exam, but some students learn a little more so they can take the AB exam. For Java, just take the A.

Sometimes taking the harder exam benefits though. For example, if you take the BC exam for Calculus instead of the AB (and score a 5 on the exam) then it may satisfy the requirements to count as another year of Calculus at the college of your choice.

I liked taking Java in high school.

Java isn't really a great language to learn (as in I think C++ would be more useful knowledge, Java would be a great 2nd language).

What it is great for (and the reason I think that they chose it, is that it is great for helping you grasp concepts). Objects, data structures, ect, will become very apparent quickly.

You won't get stuff like pointers, and other low level garbage collecting stuff that you have to know for C/C++, but the logic training you get is more than enough to be prepared for even some advanced college courses.

(Comp Sci AB wasn't that great for me, it's just more complicated cases of what you learn in Comp sci A mostly, so yes, comp sci A is a great course.)

I hope you guys can help me if If I get stuck.

I think I'll read about Java during summer before class starts. Give me a good head start just in case if I don't understand something.
Feel free to ask me for help if you need it AP Comp Sci is a great step in learning the concepts of programming

if you don't have any prior programming experience i would suggest the 'A'

the 'AB' delves into Data Structures and Big-O Notation which makes it a bit harder for someone without experience.
