9800GTX really worth the Extra $60 Bucks!! - Page 3

Of course it's a faster card; it is a higher number than the 8800.

8800GTX and 8800 Ultra is rare and expensive from where i come from. The only chances of getting it is when someone decided to liberate it from their system and put it up online to sell it. Who knows if the bugger has overclocked it to it's breaking point and now attempts to trick some poor sod into taking it. i almost bought a 8800GTX from a guy. But the amount i'm paying for, i could buy a 9800GTX. Who cares if it has 256mb lesser memory. i think 9800GTX is a fairer deal, at least for me

NCIX? I think that extra $60 is a great investment, especially if you are going to play games like Crysis. If you are using that card just to play StarCraft, or Counter-Strike, then forget it.

I do agree that the 8800GTX's are getting fewer and far between in regards to availability. But there are some online retailers in the US that still have the 8800GTX for ~$300.

RAMDAC?

You mean RAM right?

RAMDAC is digital -> analog converter and those have been sitting at 400mhz forever
Yes sLowEnd. you are right. i keep assuming that memory found on graphic cards are all called RAMDACs. In reality, my knowledge is probably still stuck in Voodoo graphic card era. My mistake on that

Hey bushwick!! maybe you can help. We have almost the same rig. I have a E6400 Core 2 Duo/3.1GHZ/V.Core 1.35v and a ASUS P5B/1604 motherboard and I have the 8800 GTX. Maybe you can give me tip what aftermarket cooler system I should put in??

Thanx a bunch HOLMES!!

I just ordered an 8800gtx for $200 off another member on this forum, so i think that is the ultimate in price vs performance

But that's another story

I think you should go with the 9800GTX and just step up when the inevitably better card appears in the next few months (as these 9 series cards are a slight bust... ie 256bit memory bus, 512MB ram)

I want to know why they didnt just shrink down the 8800gtx and rebadge it as a 9800gtx? And hey, make it 1GB while you're at it (memory is cheap)
