[PCWorld] Safari Patched

Thread Starter
This patch is for the Safari WebKit exploit that was found in the PWN2OWN contest. So that's like 2-3 weeks it took them?

They also said the exploit could possibly affect other OSX apps as well, including Dashboard and Mail

Quote:
Apple has issued a security patch for its Safari Web browser, fixing the flaw that earned one security researcher US$10,000 at the CanSecWest security conference.

The flaw was exploited by Independent Security Evaluators Researcher Charlie Miller to gain access to a MacBook Air computer three weeks ago. It lies in the WebKit open-source HTML rendering engine used by Safari and several other Mac OS X programs.

The bug lay in the way WebKit would process certain specially crafted JavaScript commands. In order to exploit the flaw, Miller had to first make the contest organizers visit a special Web site that contained his malicious JavaScript code.

I will still use FF, never been a fan of Safari.

For me, FF > Opera > Safari.

Safari is second for me since it is now compatible with FF's Ad-block's filter list subscriptions. Opera is also very good; I just don't like the tab bar being above the URL bar and not being able to change that.

FF is still #1 for me, though. Even though it might be the slowest of the three at loading up and even though it might be the most clunky, it's the most functional in my opinion.

Very soon it will be the fastest!

It already is for me in Windows where I use FF3b5, but I don't wanna mess with installing it in Kubuntu.

Try the Beta 4, it's much faster and can use ABP.

Beta 5 is faster than 4, but ABP and a few other add ons are not compatible.
Laptop...awesome.

I've seen patches that did more that were sub-10MB.

After getting the FF3 beta, there's no other browser I will touch. It's just that good. And I was considering Opera during the FF2 days.

If you're talking about Firefox, yes, I use it with ABP. And just a few days ago, ABP got an update which added b5 compatibility. So I am now using FF3b5 with ABP.

It's always like that. The last Safari "patch" or whatever was that big as well.

Is safari really that big of a program that it needs a patch size that a game would use?
