OS + Mobo help

Thread Starter
OK so i have an 'ordinary issue' which i am trying to find a loop hole around.

My brothers motherboard has gone......still powers everything up ect but no display (Checked GPU + RAM)

So we are going to replace his P5N32-E SLI.

The problem is, he has an OEM Vista OS. Which is easy to get it enabled on a new motherboard if i ring M$ (which i hate doing)

So what i planned was, if he bought me a P35 board (DS3R for £75) i would give him my P5N32 (£120)

I know this is an unfair deal to him, but he doesn't OC or anything (not as much as me, so he is willing to do it)

But my question is, if i just replace his mobo with mine (exact same model) Will it still need re-activating? I don't know if the OS ties itself to a 'specific' motherboard or just the name

if you're replacing the mobo, with the exact same version, then you shouldnt have to do anything, it should just boot up like normal, you might need to reinstall some drivers, but thats about it.

i swapped my rubbish asus board for a gigabyte board, and that booted straight up without having to reinstall windows etc which was a nice surprise.

Heh Thanks man

I didn't know whether windows tied itself to a specific motherboard serial code' or just the generic name
