E8400. I've said this once and i'll say it again. By the time quads are actually utilized the Q6600 will be obsolete.
it might be my ram though, its overclocked at 1016mhz but all timings are defaults 5-5-5-15 2T i tihnk this would probably effect it

if thats the case, where does that leave a dual core? it confuses me, programs arent utilizing quads, but when they do the quad will be obsolete.... dang, its too early to try and think...

It depends on what you are using your CPU for. If you are doing video encoding. Or folding on 2 cores and playing games on the other 2... Quad is definitely superior.

If you are just gaming or using regular applications. The E8400 is superior.

I'm thinking about selling my molten lava hot B3 for an E8400. I play games and don't do any encoding. WHAT SAY YOU, OCN?

hehe, I would definitely go to that or higher if my motherboard permitted it with a quad. If you're lucky with my mobo you can get a little past 3ghz.

well its like the single core and the dual core debate many years ago. people still moved to dual core, and the same thing will happen with quad. Regardless once games come out designed for quad, they will outperform duals and the era of quad shall begin. Right now for gaming ONLY dual is better, but ill still go for the quad as it allows me to do more for the same price. Yeah it wont perform as well, but i see average clocks of E8400 @ 4ghz-4.2ghz (rare examples @4.7) and im assuming thats water cooled, can a Q6600 not hit 4ghz on water? And lets face it the Quad extremes have hit near 6ghz so if we are talking about best performance the dual's have already been left behind.... (And yeah people are gonna start saying look at the price, who cares? FACT quad IS better and OC's higher than dual. So if the debate is based on whats better E8400 or Q6600 then yeah for gaming its E8400 but if the debate is which is better overall between Quad and dual core technology or in clock speeds (including gaming), the answer is Quad. The Quad Extremes just clean the floor with anything. But yes the Dual Core E8400 come second and the Q6600 comes third in regards to gaming.

Thats my view anyway

Is that not an increase? And that small increase goes very far when dealing with games like Crysis.
