P5K Deluxe w/wifi bios

Thread Starter
I'm wondering if I can use the bios from a normal P5k, it's bios is updated currently to 1006 and the latest for P5k Deluxe w/wifi is only 0809. I've just been having some problems with my current bios and was wondering if the normal P5k bios would work on my mobo. Thanks for the help, +rep for any helpful info.

No, this would not be advisable at all. The P5k is a different board than the P5k deluxe. Just because the number of the bios is higher does NOT mean that it is better for a different board. Bios's between boards are not compatible, becuase of features, hardware.. everything really. If you have the latest bios, 0809, I would keep it where it is and be happy.

Ive had to RMA my P5k deluxe twice now because of flashing the bios. Ive tried a 300 bios, the 404, 501, 601, and 603, and of them all the 404 bios has been the best. If your board is working well, and doesnt have problems, I would advise against changing things. Certainly dont try to give it a bios for a different (and less OCable) board.

Unfortunately, it is next to impossible to downgrade the P5k Deluxe's bios. I tried doing it with a tech support guy on the phone, and the board shut down, never to reboot again. Took about 3 weeks to RMA it. To downgrade a bios you need to use the asus update program, FROM WINDOWS, and in the options set it to downgradable. Then you have to try to flash it the old bios from windows. Asus Update is notorious for messing up bios flashes, and that was the case with mine. If you want to try, download the old bios, get asus update from the motherboard cd and update the program, then go into options and select downgradable. Then use the tool to flash the new bios. However, I DO NOT advise this at all.

Thanks for the advice, since you have a P5k deluxe and a q6600, I was wondering if you could answer another question of mine. Core Temp is only showing the temp of 2 cores yet it says I have 4 cores. And my 3dmark06 scores are extremely low for a quad, my e6850 was scoring higher in the CPU part. So I'm thinking my board isn't recognizing 2 of my cores, do you know of any way to fix this? thanks +rep for your help

Uninstall the CPU in device manager. Reboot, and it should show the proper configuration.

Its hyper-threading. Its a known bug on the microsoft website.
