Looks like a sweet build, I'd recommend staying with the TRUE(i just installed one in my system and it's awesome!). Also I'd definately go with the 4GB of ram, you'll wish you did later if you got the 2GB instead imop. I'm real impressed with the overall quality of the evga boards, i think that's an awesome board. 9800gx2..... can you buy one for me too?

Hey Bro,

Thanks for the feedback. Quick question. What fan are you mounting on that TRUE and what paste are you using?

Thanks

Arctic Silver 5 (AS5) is a really good paste.

Looks like a great build, it's nice to have a big budget.

A few points, mostly about cost savings:

You can definitely save money by switching to DDR2, and you won't gain much performance from DDR3. Now, it's obvious that money is no object, so maybe the fractional performance gains are good enough, but I do sort of have to say it.

If you're only using a one slot video card, why shell out for an SLI board? You can get a P35 board that takes DDR3, and I understand that the Maximus/Rampage Extreme are well regarded and probably less expensive.

Raptors really aren't any better than Seagate 7200.11's.

Even with a GX2, a 1200W PSU is -massive- overkill. A PCP&C 610W is available on newegg for $120ish. That would do. The 750W is great too, for $160.

Nice list. The extra $600 -$800 on board and DDR3 may gain few percentages of performance. I would go for 780i board and some good quality DDR2 ram. Also, a good 700w PSU should be fine. Corsair 750tx, Sliverstone DA750 or DA850.

Hey guys,

My bad. I forgot to mention that I would be planning on getting another 9800GX2 sometime in the future for two reasons. One, I would first like to see how far I can get with a single 9800GX2. Two, I would be waiting for the price to also subside and get another one when I’m comfortable with that. I would definitely have to agree with you guys about the no need for an SLI board if I was only going single card setup. Sorry for the confusion.

In terms of the Raptors, shouldn’t they have a much better access time due to the 10,000 rotation speed vs. 7,200 in the Seagates and therefore less lag especially in a Raid 0 setup? How much of a difference in 2x Seagate 7200.11's vs. 2x Raptors running in Raid 0 would I notice? Anyone have any clue about that? I mean if there is no real difference then the Seagate 7200.11's sound right but I am not just sure about that right now…

I also hear that DDR3 may gain few percentages in performance in relation to 1066 or 1333 but when you’re hitting 1600+ there is a definite advantage in which DDR2 can not compete especially with the new Q9450 and its FSB. I may be wrong but let me know how you guys feel about that.

Thanks for all the feedback.

A single GX2 is best right now. There are serious issues with quad SLI right now. Once drivers (hopefully) fix this, then get another.

Also, stick with the DDR3 if you plan on hitting 500+ base FSB (500 x your multiplier). I would love to have that budget lol but your rig will be sweet. Not much to change, but be sure your PSU has 2x 6+2-pin PCI-E and 2 6-pin PCI-E if you plan on getting 2 GX2s.
