Advice on 8500 and Vapochill lightspeed

Thread Starter
I'm upgrading from an intel 6850 on an 680i a1 board cooled with a vapochill lightspeed to an intel 8500. I'm kinda new to OCing, so does anyone have any ideas what numbers I can expect with the new proc?? I'm hoping to hit 4.5 stable, or close. A noob question, but will I have to increase other volatages than v-core with this chip like the 6850 to max the OC, or just the v-core?? Thanks guys

You can hit 4.3 - 4.4 on air with a good stepping E8500.

The limitation is going to be your motherboard and the max FSB it can reach.

4.75 Ghz for example which can easily be done with the chip with your type of cooling will require the board to reach 500 FSB.

Without some serious cooling on the nb (and likely the SB as well), that's hard to do with the 680i.

If you aren't planning on SLI, sell your 680i and pick up one of the P35 boards (like the Abit IP35 Pro). they will do well over 500 FSB.

remember that phase isn't really a 24/7 thing. Its just too high-energy and loud.
