If you upgrade quite often, get E8400 especially you play games. Otherwise, Q6600.

You'll never see an Extreme at less than $950.

Nice tactfull post there. FYI the vcore has nothing to do with the Q9450 OC limit. It is the fact that it has an x8 multi and motherboards are maxing out around 450 FSB with quads. The only Q9450s I 've seen over 3.6GHz are running 1.7v to the NB.

As for the Q6600 G0s, the newer ones are "Averaging" 3.4GHz. I never made any claim to what the potential of the Q6600 is.

Why thank you! The Q6600 is held back by heat more than the Q9450. Put it into a DFI DK P35 and watch the FSB stay stable at 550.

Do EXtreme CPU have the Voltage limitalion too. If so whats the point if you will not get more then 4.2GHz.

Ya, 3.4GHz would be the easy mark to attain on a Q6600 with any kind of aftermarket cooler. 3.6GHz is the threshold for air cooling with lapping while keeping your temperatures within reason (<60C). I have yet to see 3.8GHz on air cooling in a temperature range I would consider for a 24/7 overclock. Its a great chip and I wouldn't trade mine for anything but a QX variety. They can keep those regular 45nm quads because they really don't impress me.
