Thread Starter
I was one of those happy accounts, until this happened. I have transferred my account over to 3 seperate computers, all of various builds, and I have never encountered a problem.

Steam Support

Remember it takes 3-5 business (Mon-Fri) for them to respond. Sometimes a little longer.

I have XP Pro w/ SP3 and no trouble at all with Steam. Try doing a Repair Install with your XP cd.

I rarely ever have problem with any of my many steam and valve games. I do have some problems with TF2 on occasion, but nothing to big of a deal. I have gotten that error along with a few others on HL2, and so far the best fix I have found is to just make sure you save your game often.

as mentioned before your xp sp3 could very well be the culprit. sp3 if you read anything about it when it was released caused all kinds of problems with peoples machines. i would eliminate that as a possible problem. it's been out for a while now, and i still refuse to load it on any computer
