my Q9450 broke! - Page 4

Corey, dont worry about what these people say. It was a mistake and a lesson learned. Thats part of tweaking computers. I agree some research ahead of time wouldnt have hurt but just take this as an expensive lesson. If noone made mistakes or had any questions then these forums would NOT exist. Were all supposed to be here helping each other and its sad that people laugh when someone makes a mistake...

Yep, easy mistake to make.

But for the future, keep in mind that temps and voltage are 2 different things that aren't related. If either go too high, your chip is in danger of failing.

Now that you know, general rule is 1.4V MAX unless you are on subzero cooling. I wouldn't even go over 1.4V on water tbh.

Keep this link in your favorites its very helpfull: http://processorfinder.intel.com/

When you get a new processor look up that processor and look at Vcore values, it will have a low number and a high number, make sure to no exceed the higher number and you will be fine.

If you are going for another quad core I would reccomend you grab a G0 (SLACR) Q6600 and they can get some nice speeds with good temps when lapped, and they can take a max of 1.50v, even 1.55v with good temps but lifespan WILL be shortened, but not to 2 days, still in the years hopefully.

i think you mean overclocking it to hell... sorry to hear that you lost your chip like that, but as has been said before, do more research next time...
