subscribed, will be getting this board hopefully in a week (had it once but returned it, doh!), but might take a month to get the ram. Looking at these to start with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227292 . I have everything else PSU, case, (Thermaltake Bach VX http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Thermaltake/BachVX ), HD2900XT.

Gonna recycle extra stuff from other rigs as much as possible. Figured to go with the X38 version instead of the Premium, both for budget and new to Intel again after years of AMD.

Tough break on the x38 DFI board Microman so many people like it. I feel Asus does better bios updates and I have had no issues with there stuff myself. I am my own tech support. One thing the Deluxe has over the Premium is a longer development cycle.

Microman, got my board today just waiting on the ram, some Gskill DDR3 1333 2x1gb kit $127 shipped. At least waiting this long brought the price down on ram. Whats going on with your board? How does it compare to your DFI and Gigabyte X38's youv'e had? Please update.

Thanx for replying to the pm. I wanted to keep this thread going. I know about the thread over hear http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=163694 but its slowing down. This is my new build so far

Intel Q6600 GO $199 new retail

P5E3 Deluxe wifi new

ATI HD2900XT 512mb, pulled from my A8R32 mvp (it gets the old x1900gt)

Thermaltake Bach VX (Refurbished price from Thermaltake $59.99, looks new
though and came with all accessories)

Pioneer 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE (wanted to save all SATA slots for storage, besides got an ide port might as well use it)

Hiper 580w modular black RMA new replacement

2x1gb Gskill DDR3 10600/1333 $127 shipped (nice to see DDR3 pricing drops, gonna go with something 4gb high end later)

Seagate 500gb 7200.11 32mb cache new oem

Samsung 1.44mb floppy

Mostly stock air cooling 1x120mm back 140mm front, 92mm side window, dual 70mm pci slot fan (one exhaust, one positional) stock Intel cooler for now.

OS XP pro 32bit, gonna dual boot Vista Home premium 64bit sp1 in a bit but gonna setup with XP for now, money is tight but $99 oem at Newegg aint bad
.

Its been a slow build as up until now I got stuff as I could afford it, the cpu was the first thing i got. Had other home repair crap taking up all my time and money. GWB's tax rebate thingy (got $2400 cause of all the kids and wifey) is getting stretched to the limit. With a new washer, water heater and car repair stuff I haven't been able to sit down with it yet. Just looking at itthe parts makes me happy; always love putting together a new build for the first time.

Also first time back to Intel since my 1ghz PIII rig I built years ago. Sorry AMD but I needed a little more challenge as your stuff is way easy to OC, make good things with bulldozer and I'll be back. Keep us updated with your progress and I will post mine as I get it together, with some pics to boot.

Microman, got it together, powered up first boot, haven't hooked it up yet to a monitor going to once the little ones are asleep, but no negative beeps, all fans spinning fine and dvd burner opened up. Got my XP pro disc ready to go, hopefully next post will be from the new system. Cable management was a pain due to haveing to use and adapter for the P8 plug (2xmolex+P4). Went ahead and used the X1900gt for now as I will probably just through in a 3870 in a month or so, and don't feel like yanking out my HD2900xt.
First order is to flash the most recent bios 1203. Then partition and OS install. GOing to multiboot XP/Vista?Ubuntu 8.04. Can't wait to try out the newest Ubuntu build "Hardy Heron", the x1900gt might have better driver support anyways.

bios flash succesful, cleared cmos to re-enable express gate. Shipping bios was 703. Now OS time. Thanx to all who have reported experiences as everything has gone exactly as described.

Update: XP pro sp2 installed without a hitch, then i put it up for the night. CPU idles at 30c and RAM was detected with 2 profile option (nice). Tried to save a buck there but future upgrades are a Raptor drive for OS and second 500gb drive for raid, Vista SP2 disc from Newegg, and a 1600 4gb DDR3 kit (something with lower latency like the HPC OCZ Reapers, also a better cpu cooler.

Now to installing all other drivers and software (yawn). Going from a 320gb drive to 500gb drive. Going to pull it out and hook it up to my old rig and just put everything in a folder. Also got the missing remote from ebaY. I know its a gimmicky board but me liky, and with the wifi access point my wife can use her PDA and laptop away from my rig and I can setup a wireless connection for the kiddy's various rigs. This build went swifter than my last Opteron build.

Once all the software is setup the overclocking can begin. Time to read up on some Intel Core 2 guides. Any tips for certain guide favorites are welcome and rep will be returned if needed. I am not new to overclocking but have had very limited experience with Intel for sometime. Nice to have a build I can be proud of again, all my dual Opterons hold a special place in my heart though.
