but i always thought that AMD released the "True" dual cores and "True" quads on one die? isnt that what makes amd different from intel? but i guess dual die isnt so bad......i mean intel has been getting away with it and kicking amd's @ss

either way, AMD FTW

No they were going to be native quads from the start, that was what AMD was constantly bragging about the entire time.

What separates AMD processors from current Intel processors it that, but also Hyper Transport and integrated memory controllers. Multi-die chips are a great way to easily improve performance and core count, however you then have twice the heat to dissipate. In case you haven't noticed these god massive C2Q stock coolers. My friend complained about his stock cooler barely fitting in his case even. True quads have allot of advantages yes, but they require allot more research time to make.

On another note with Phenoms being so hot on 65nm will it really have enough heat reduction in 45nm to add the die space of 2 more cores and still be cool enough for dual-die without horrendously large heat sinks?

They didnt get 4 cores right...so lets move on to 6? Wait I got it. They make a 6 core chip, it has a flaw in it, so they sell it as a 5 core. Sound about right?

Yes they learn from their mistakes and move on. You can't just stop in this fast paced market. You do realize that Phenoms are native quad cores so there yields are much more lower than intel quads. Selling Tri-cores lets them make back money. Your making it out like its a bad thing to do.

Would you happen to know anything about K9? I've always wanted to know more but all i can finds is that it was a higher power per clock version of K8. Probably ditched because AMD needed quads more then an update on duals.

It's starting to PIS* ME THE F*** OFF! I mean I know how tech goes, Always evolving.. But the second you Build todays BEST COMPUTER, less than a week goes by and BAM... Oh your on that quad core? Do they make those anymore?... I got 36 cores... I know thats sarcastic.... but I mean... I check this site everyday, News especially... and every two days I'm more angry at the next breakthroughs to come... When even in Q3 we proably still wont have a handful of applications that utilize 2/4 cores let alone The Intel 8 Trigram 64 Core Processor..

PS: What ever happened for the race for more Ghz? Now it's for more cores...

In technology one must learn to accept what is today as today and try not to think too much about what is coming in the coming months.

Yeah I know.. Just finished basking in the glory of my rig then my friend calls me a week later with his... 790i QX9770,9800GTX, Water cooled monster of a machine... I helped him put it together... Just got me on edge. Don't you love friends who just love to talk about how much they are richer and greater they are than you? 2 hours of him talking about 2 more gtx's for 3 way sli...

all these cores are pointless at the moment. i mean, come on, most software is optimized for dual-core use, quad cores have an even lower list of software that take advantage of all cores. why do you think intel's 45nm dual cores beat out the quads in many benchmarks? this is a bad case of software falling way behind hardware, and many people will be wasting their money on unused technology
