Max safe MB temp

Thread Starter
Hey all, using an Asus Striker Extreme mobo (Nvidia 680i chipset). So far I have a C2D 6700 running at 3.5GHz on it, which I'm fairly pleased with but one thing is concerning me.

The "MB" temp as read by Asus PC Probe II is reading as 46C under heavy load. I was just hoping to get some input as to what the max "safe" temperature is for the Striker Extreme "MB" (which I'm assuming with be the northbridge, but I really have no idea, there aren't seperate readouts for NB or SB).

I let the computer sit for a few hours and it seems to be idling around 39C, but after a few hours of Assassins Creed it did hit 46. Is this to high? What temperature should I be aiming for? Any ideas for getting it down a bit? Any help would be appreciated.

And ya, I just realized I posted this under graphics cards, however I seem to be lacking a delete button so here it will stay. Didn't see that part, just saw "Nvidia" and thought of the chipset. Sorry. =P

46C is completely safe for the north bridge and south bridge. It's around 60-70C that it starts to cause system instability.

As long as it doesn't reach like 70-80c or more than your all good.

Ah, thanks, good to know. I was a little worried about trying to cool it further, I already have an ice problem.

Just to clarify things further. That sensor is not the NB or SB temperature, but a reading taken from a sensor highlighted in this picture. Like the others have said though you are perfectly safe.

This picture is different than the Striker, but the sensor is the same.
