I ran that mobo with a 600w noisetaker and a 620w liberty with np. I'm thinking you still have a ram issue. DFI's site has a list of compatible PSU's and RAM on it. I would take a look there before buying anything. Good luck, thats a great board once you get passed all the issues.

yea the board is a real trouble-maker, I hope those links help both of you guys out!

The Hynix RAM should work, Hynix makes good ICs. But yea, good luck with value RAM DFI likes to be pampered - lol.

Keep me updated, I added a subscription to this thread (now this is making me want to overclock again, I guess Ill have to see what I can do with this Phenom I am stuck with)

Well, that multi spec Geil that i have in the mail, i know for sure works with experts. I built one for a friend of mine back in the day. Thats why i got all excited that i was able to find some of that ram...

As far as PSU's go, i was all over the DFI site and couldn't find the damn PSU compatibility list anywhere... Google couldn't find it ether...

I just the tracking number for the opty 170 i got!!! Woot!

I cant wait to get this PC up and running. It's going to be a beast!! I may have a line on two 7900GTX cards for $100 for both! If that works out, o man....

I'll get like 8k in 3dmark06!!! Sweeeeeeet!!!!

so, i have been playing around with the hardware i have, trying to get this thing to post.

I pulled the PSU out of my main rig, that i know for sure works with this board...

I was thinking, because the 3200+ that i have in the board right now has the IHS pulled off, do i need to mod the plastic CPU heatsink thing to get the sink to sit properly on the chip?? Just wondering, because i do think that the ram i have will work, i'm getting new ram in the mail on Saturday...

The board will still not post...

Yes.

Thankfully, the amount you have to remove is easy to determine.

Remove the HSF retention module, and you'll see four "bumps" on the corners. Sand these down, as these are the same height as the IHS. To be absolutely sure, put the IHS against one of these bumps; they should be the identical height when using the bottom of the HSF retention module as the reference plane.

Hope this helps!

so, how much do i need to sand off?? 1/8th inch?? 1/16th??

Not sure what a "snug" fit is going to feel/look like. I bought the chip second hand, after the IHS was removed, so i don't have the IHS on hand to use as a guide...

Hmmm...

And you have no other S939 chip to make a comparison?

When I get home today, I'll compare the height of the IHS with the height of the bumps on the HSF Retention Module and let you know. And, if I can find my engineer's straight edge, I'll provide a measurement for you as well.

hmmm... i took this board all apart, yet again, to try and see what your talking about with those bumps... not to sure what to do. Just cut them off?? or just sand them down a little... ????
