Q6600 temperature check.

Thread Starter
I just reseated my Tuniq Tower 120 (cleaned off the thermal paste with Isopropyl and a lens cleaning cloth, then reapplied). Ambient temperature is about 20C.

I have my Q6600 overclocked to 3.15 GHz with 1.425v set in bios (1.392 in CPU-z idle). Sitting here in Vista with just firefox running my core temps are:

43 44 38 39

Running Prime95 my core temps are:

62 63 57 58

The load temps are so-so, but the idle temps seem really high.

Thoughts?

Are you running "Small FFT's" in Prime 95? That will show you the highest temps, as it utilizes the most L2 Cache during stress-testing. If so, and you are loading in the low 60C area at peak, then you should be OK (assuming your Q6600 has G0 stepping). The max temp for the G0 is 71C according to Intel spec.

How do you check VID? I can't find it in CPUz and I forgot to check on the die itself. Also, what program are you guys using to monitor temps in Vista? I have Speedfan set to +15 and seems to be about right. It says I max at 52C in 3DMark 06 at stock. Thanks guys, I'm new to overclocking.

doesnt matter about the VID. U said ur running around 1.4V, those temps seem about right for a pretty good cooler. Mine with 1.43v runs about 40 idle and 65 max load. It's also about 30C in this room (~83F).

EDIT: and i use coretemp to monitor temps

also, ur using vista, i know it doesn't seem like much but vista does use a bit of resources in the background. My idle temps were always slightly higher on vista than xp (like 1 or 2C, nothing huge)

Yeah but, it's like 45 degrees when I'm doing nothing at all. Seems wrong!
