I always wondered how it doesn't stretch them, but at 1680x1050 max settings, everything looks perfect. The only thing I recommend is staying at your monitors native resolution, otherwise pixels will DEFINITELY be stretched.

Hope all goes well!

You are seriously missing the point to widescreen displays and higher resolutions if you are still doing 800x600..... Being that the higher the resolution the clearer and sharper the game looks...

Games aren't the same as movies and dvd's which have a set resolution or aspect ratio.

Games are rendered at whatever resolution you have your display set to and the "stretching" you are referring to is the aspect ratio not necessarily the resolution.

Your games will look fine provided you run your games at the native res of the display.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_(image)

if you are going to stay at the 640x480 800x600 res then you do not want to buy a widescreen display you will want to stay with a 4:3 display.

Here's the best monitor you can buy right now with the gaming ideals you want.

porschedrifter, I don't know whether I'll like the widescreen resolution or not, that's why I'm wondering if I can set it to those in case I don't, I don't care about graphics/detail I care about performance, I'm a competitive gamer and that's all that really matters to me in a monitor, frankly I'm fine with my CRT, but I wanna get one for lans so it's easier to move around. My question was is it possible to just allow the black lines to appear on the side and play it like it is a normal non-widescreen monitor?

because I've got an 8800gts 512mb (g92), haven't updated my system profile yet, but that isn't relevant to anything, I'm asking questions about a monitor.

If all you want it for is to carry to lans, then why don't you buy a 17/19" 4:3. Shouldn't be too much money and you get what you want. Personally, I like widescreens and I would prefer to have one over my 23" 4:3. It might be different on a smaller monitor and at those low resolutions that you like. I have mine at 16x12 and I don't like having to look up to see the top of the screen.

1680x1050 is the optimal resolution for that card. However using nvidias control panel there's a lot more things you can do to improve performance and speed aside from running at such a low (horrible) resolution.

it's not just performance, like I said it is personal preference, I like not having to turn a lot and I like the sensitivity I'm currently using.
Mikecdm I was thinking about getting a normal LCD, but I didn't know if I might like the wide-screens better, that's why I just wanted to know if it was changeable, and now that I've been answered I appreciate it, thanks noobdown. I'm thinking about getting http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116095 , I hope it has the option.
