Looking for a HSF for Maximus Formula x38

Thread Starter
Ok, I currently have a Tuniq Tower but I'm going to throw that into a friends rig I'm building him. Now, the TT120 doesn't quite fit on the Maximus with the stock NB heatsink on it. I'm running an e8400 so I know I don't need obscene cooling and I've been trying to narrow down my choices.

Oh, looks don't mean squat to me, I'm the only one looking at this thing and I don't have a window.

I'm teeting between the Xigmatek HDT-S1283, Zalman 9700 or the Scythe Kama Cross. Any other options would be great. I would rather go through newegg since I have a great relationship with them and their warehouse is about 20 minutes from me.

Not The Kama Cross.

I have read numerous reviews which is say its performance is dire.

Zalmans are pretty, but the xigmateks are awesome coolers, with brilliant performance.

I'll tell you what- I really like the Thermaltake Typhoon. The only thing: it's about $50. I have a Q9450 2.66Ghz and I have it overclocked to 3.6Ghz, and my temp is between 37C and 44C, only air cooled. If your going to overclock at all i'd recommend this one. It fit up nicely to my Asus mb- good luck!

I have a zalman 9500 and it fits really well and isnt that bad for cooling, you could probably fit a 9700 in there as well. though i'm thinking about upgrading to a TRUE.

I've got a Cooler Master Eclipse on my Maximus Formula, does a great job.

I got the Thermalright Ultima-90 which is the "mini me" version of the Ultra 120 eXtreme.

Anandtech has a really nice review, and even tells you what fans are recommended. It also can sport a 120mm fan too, the clips are included. Slap some MX-2 on it and you will notice it really hangs with the huge tower coolers.
