nay...

It doesn't go *that* fast. I made my steps toward Core 2 Duo in August 2006 with a DFI INFINITY 975X , E6600, and 2GB DDR2 800 RAM. Those components would still not be very much outdated nowadays. In May 2007 my mobo was replaced by a P5N32-E SLI and the 8800GTS was added. Then, to achieve better overclocking, the E6750 replaced the E6600 (except for the video card, neither replacement was really necessary, and even the video card was arbitrary, since the only advantage was DX10, since the performance was about the same as the prior X1900 Crossfire pair).

In short, the core of my system that I have now is about a year old, and it isn't outdated imo. Now, a relatively inexpensive upgrade (back to the P5N32-E SLI, and adding a second 8800GTS 640MB), I believe I can easily handle another year with it. Thus, two years isn't *too* bad an expectation. Only when you want to have the top-of-the-top kind of rig will you have to upgrade sooner.

EDIT:

Regarding RAM, just stick the DDR2 1000 RAM in it. It will work just fine What the support means is that at stock speeds, the RAM won't run faster than DDR2 800. But, when you overclock, your RAM will run at higher speeds. Thus, DDR2 1000 is still a good choice.

Okay that's good to hear. I'll stick with the DDR2 1000 ram then.

Btw, does anyone know what the difference is between the DFI BloodIron P35-T2RL and the DFI LANPARTY DK P35-T2RS is? I did a comparison on Newegg and all that I can see is the Lanparty has round IDE and Floppy Cables and looks cooler. Does the Lanparty have any real additional features?

Looks to me that the only diff is that the Bloodiron one has Onboard USB 3 connectors for 6 x USB 2.0 port.
