Go with the 5000be for gaming. It is cheap and OC's up in the 3.2ghz area.

Thread Starter
Thanks for the replies, i was leaning towards the 5000BE. Hopefully when the 45nm phenoms do come out that they will be backwards compatible with AM2.

Like many said before, the 6400+ is fastest out of the box. That phenom only has to be clocked up to 2.7-8 to match that performance, so image 4 3GHZ phenom cores.....Uber.

I would get the Phenom, would have gotten it instead of my 6400+ if that had been this cheap and bug free.

I believe the AM3 which are HT3.0 and DDR3 compatible will also have DDR2 controllers for reverse compatibility. Whether the MBs BIOS will support them is another question.

If its a question on which to get then none cause you will se not much upgrade from your current CPU. If so then X4 all the way./

I see you have you 5000+ at 2.8ghz already. I would recommend you wait for some new AMD cpus. Your cpu should be fine at the moment.

You are correct sir! The AM3s will support AM2+ and AM3 but not AM2. AM2+ supports AM2 and AM2+, but not AM3.
