Well the same could be said about GTAIV(windows), GT5(OSX), Mass Effect(Linux) then. They are three separate genres(OS). But they are still video games(PCs). Apple chooses to call themselves something different. But they are still a personal computer regardless.

I'm not doubting the fact they aren't restricting their software to their hardware.

I don't know if you heard but sirus radio and XM radio joined together. They are the only Satellite radio stations out there. But because you can play music on your ipod, car radio, etc... they aren't considered a monopoly. You aren't forced to listen to satellite radio, you have options.

In the case with Apple you have the option of going with windows or linux and anything else. But if someone was to call them out on a monopoly it would be hard to do because anything you can do on an apply, you can do on windows and vice versa, so you aren't restricted to only playing movies on Apple computers and not windows computers.

For now, for some reason the merger was allowed, by the justice department, but apparently the FCC gets the final word, so there are actually quite a few politicians asking the FCC to not allow it on the basis of it being a monopoly and the company(ies) being able to jack up prices. so its not concrete yet.

I wonder how well these Psystars will work... If they work well, I might like one for media center use

There is no monopoly. I don't know how you guys come up with this stuff.

That is equivalent to saying Chevron has a monopoly because only Chevron stations sell Chevron-branded gasoline.

"OSX" is not a "market." The operating system market as a whole is.

All wrong, automatically wrong because you compared the crippled windows vista "home" premium to OSX ultimate. I'm the only one on this site who knows how to do an actual apples-to-apples comparison when it comes to this topic. Check out the thread "40% of college students said they plan to buy a Mac" if you want to know the truth. If not, take the blue pill and wake up believing whatever you want to believe.

And 100% planned on graduating when they started college and we know how that figure works out.

Thanks for missing the whole point, since that had zero (0) to do with it

According to MS the only difference between Ultimate and Home Premium is back up software, Remote Desktop, and bit locker. So in terms of performance, Ultimate VS Premium is not crippled. Ultimate just has a few extra bells and whistles. There are a few minor other differences but they don't affect performance.

I re-did it with a 64 bit OS. Happy?

No I didn't miss the point. You keep saying 40% plan on buying Macs. Well I plan on winning the lottery but it's not likely. Until they actually purchase them it's all smoke and mirrors.

Nothing against Macs, as I have said previously I seriously considered one, especially when the daughter was at home. I found the inability to change hardware when I want to and at my pace an annoyance so decided against it.

Edited to add. I hope Pystar is real, Mac gets some competition and has to price accordingly, $279 for an 8800GT Pffft.

Actually that is wrong because you can get chevron gas at any chevron, texaco or caltex gas station.

Again, I am just saying, you can put linux and windows on any computer you want, but you can't do it with apple. Technically, I shouldn't be saying it is a monopoly in normal terms, I should say it is a monopoly in the way microsoft was considered a monolopy, because it wasn't truly a monopoly because even then there were other choices to go with, the policians back then just didn't know enough about the stuff.

How did he miss the point? I plan to do a lot of things in life. Now will I be able to do all of them? Maybe, Maybe not. It depends on the situation. It's easy to make a plan but following through is the hard part. How many of those students will actually buy one?
