You know I wrote about the MOTM and it got me thinking.

What do you guys think I can do to spruce it up a bit?

All I have to say is since the color I am going to go with is blue, whatever ideas you guys have are gonna be blue.

I can tell you this, white owl inspired me with the the fancy paint work hes been doing, so I was thinking about just doing the optical drives, card ready, Tower of power, USB/front panel connectors as well as a blue PSU connector kit, plus blue heat shrinking.

Either way though i am going to do the necessities first, re-paint the tower of power and see what I can do about the airducts.

Hi Joe.

I was at the hobby store the other day looking at RC stuff, and I passed the airplanes...and thought of your dilemma.

You did a great job with the wood drive caddy, and I was wondering if thicker balsa wood, or even wood-laminate might be an easier medium to work with.

the Balsa is quite light, but when cut down, assembled, painted and sprayed with a clear-coat they ought to be sturdy enough, and some mounting hardware would secure the ducts into place.

As long as the wood does not need to be load-bearing, I think that it might work? ....just a thought.

P.S. The blue bucket.... it's so you.

Yeh, I think I will put the blue bucket on and take a pic of me imitating my big-toothed hindu friend.

I have been contemplating the same thing with the wood, I kind of changed my mind and was going to try to salvage the fiberglass, but I could almost be done with wood airducts by the time I cut away all the excess fiber glass and resin, patch up any holes that creates with more fiber glass, then smooth everything out with bondo, and blah blah blah blah.

So yeh, I think I am going to get some wood. . . bassel wood.

Well Im glad someone asked, makes me feel like the good people of this planet still care.

But no, no progress, I am trying to finish this build at the exact same time that I have to pack up and move, but I have done as much packing as I can until I move Tuesday.

But my foam showed up, I was afraid it was going to be a lighter blue, but its not dark, its just medium, and I have the wood to make the air ducts, bassel wood is expensive.

Then I just have to paint, I also have one little thing left to do to help redirect air towards the mobo from the air ducts, but it'll depend on time.

Either way, I will still have a month before school starts by the time I am done unpacking.

Well here we go, got a lot done today and I am tired.

So I am quite proud of myself for this, I made my own transferable trace basically.

Tada!

And here it is on the wood.

As you can see it came out perfect, all I had to do then was duplicate it.

As you can see I had to make a lot of pieces for all the sides and what not as well as sanding the ends at angles so they met as best as possible, wood filler tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!

End results for now

Grand Finale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I have to do now, is sand everything so everything lines up, top everything off with some wood filler, then mount those bases that you saw in the first "finished" pic, then primer and paint.

As you can see, the larger set of fans goes over the sides quite a bit, that is on purpose because I hope to get at least a little bit of airflow going around the optical drives as well as my HDD.

Thanks, took 8 hours to do them, probably 5 for the first(simpler one on the right) just because I had to learn what I was doing and I made a few panels several times, the second took less than 3 just because I had a better idea of what I was doing.

Either way this project won't be done for a long time, eventually, I will find some suitable and better looking frommet material, and I will eventually get the Tower of Power to a professional looking level.
