Oh RAM, How I Hate Thee

Thread Starter
Lots of people tell me to go get 2x2gb of ram, but then i read that a 2gig stick doesn't OC as well, not that i'm overly concerned about it but still like to have the option available.

This is basically my final annoying post on ram.

It comes down to these two fighting G.Skills

2x1gig of 1066
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231144

or 2x2gig of 1000
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231145

Please make my mind shut up and stop running numbers and thoughts through my head, my only indecision in my rig is the ram...i just want to sleep without thinking of ram *cry* (exaggeration i'm not quite there yet)

Danke

2x2 puts less strain on the MCH (NB) as 2 slots are used not all 4 so this can be one side of the coin

Have you thought of the 2x2 g-Skill 8550 ?? got 8gig of that and it's good stuff

If i was getting ram again I and i stress I would get 2x2 g-skill

My 2c

Ciao

2x2gig is hard to overclock compaired to 2x1gig, but if your going to upgrade later to 4x1gig, its easier to overclock 2x2gig than 4x1gig (confusing xD). if you get the 2x2gig youll be able to overclock it up to 1066 easily, and apart from the extra 66mhz of speed, there about the same ecept the price, but $30 for an extra 2gig is worth it
Oh, hai.

No it will be paired with a 750iFTW and a Q6600.

And thanks for the responses guys, I'm going to go with the 8000, 4 gigs (well 3.5 with xp) sounds better than 66mhz faster ram

I would say the 2 x 1 GB. The Q6600 OC is far more FSB-Dependant than other chips, due to the lower Multiplier. However, it depends on if you ever plan on 8 GBs. If you ever think you might use 8 GB with this rig, then get the 2 x 2 GB kit for sure.

Be a RAM whore like me and go with the 2x2GB. Only 66MHz difference and I'm sure you can get that speed even if they don't O/C well.

I'm hoping for 3.4-3.6ghz off my q6600, will the 2x2gig limit my ability to do this? And I have heard these overclock halfway decent, to like 1049mhz i think...As for 8 gigs...probably not, but I eventually plan to upgrade to vista x64 (once i feel it's worth the next step) and i figure i can either spend a little extra now and get 2x2gig for cheap or hope that months down the line when i want 4gigs that ram is still as cheap as it is...which i feel won't be the case once nehamel comes out.

I would say go with the 2 x 1 GB for now, since your OS wouldn't support the 4 GB until you upgraded it, too.

No, more then likely you'll be able to unsync your RAM, so you can run it at whatever speed..
