Need the best price/performance/size ratio

I have come up with the following
Acer Travelmate 3002WTCi which is a 1.7Ghz pentium m, 512mb ddr2 533 RAM, 60gb hdd, bluetooth, wifi, up to 6 hours of battery, a gorgeous glossy 12.1" wxga screen, dvd writer, and to top it off, windows xp pro. Its dimensions 11.7 x 8.3 x 1 inches and weighs in at 1.6kgs. Cost $450-500

Asus Eee 900mhz celeron m, 512mb ram, 4GB of hard disk space, no optical drive, 7" screen), but its small, its compact, at 8.9″ x 6.5″ x 0.82″ and weighing in at .9kg. Cost $450-550 included is 8gb sd card, windows xp pro

You would think the decision would be easy to make, but you have to remember
-The travelmate is 3 years old, whereas the eee is 4 months
-the eee has size and weight on its side

But the travelmate has,
-almost 3 times the cpu speed,
-5 times the harddisk space, and a bigger screen.

I really cannot work this one out, so some suggestions would be handy

Ps this will not be a gaming laptop. I have a pc especially for that. The problem is it is on the other end of the house from the fireplace, and winter is about to hit here in NZ. I may however play some of those good old strategy/rpgs like diablo, age of empires etc. Thats +1 to the Acer, as the Eee is a real lemon when it comes to gaming, simple as that.

Also, do Acers give any problems after a little bit of age? I have noticed a lot of second hand acers for sale cheap. Do they not hold their price well?

I'd go with the Acer. The Asus Eee is neat, but I don't see any upside to it at all unless you're traveling a lot. Sounds like you're going to be using it at home so you don't need the smallest computer. You will also get over a 7" screen very quickly. The Acer is fully featured as well.
