new rig upgrade for AOC, so q9300, q6600, e6600 or e8400?

Alright, my brother is upgrading his rig in preparation to age of conan next month. im out of the loop as of now so i dont know which to choose.

any that we get will be on a p 35 mobo. with either an arctic cooler 7 pro, or a TRUE(thats not what were deciding on) and overclocked to the max. he does nothing but game. Arma, AOC beta(yes he got in), red orchestra, americas army, vegas, vegas 2, hl2, portal, and te list goes on.

so, what route do we go? i can get my 6600E up to a 1500 fsb wall on my bad mobo, so do we go with a e6600 and OC it? or go with a q6600? or go wolfdale and OC? yorkfield?

thisll prob be with 2 gigs, maybe 4 of decent ram. were looking for pure FPS. thats all. 8800 gt overclocked. only things were upgrading are mobo, ram, and cpu.

also, what happened to the mass price drops that were supposed to happen today from a long time ago?

alright, im pretty sure on this. i think im goin with a DFI blood iron . i sorta already had that set in my mind. then i found this ram. for 90$. dzamn lol.

so uh, which version of vista was it that you needed to use more than 3gb of ram?

why would you get an E6600, when it's been replaced twice? it's only worth it if second hand and cheap at that. the E8400 is the obvious choice if you want FPS and gaming pleasure.

you need a 64-bit edition of Vista, or XP, to actually use 3.2+ gigs of ram.

I'd get the Q6600 over any other quad for the fact that its tried n true... check recent polls on this site, its surely the ppls choice.
and I really dont see it getting passed by any of the newer 45nm quads yet, the q9300 with a 7.5 multi isnt going to OC very well IMO, could be a beast in hiding tho

However if ur really into FPS, then an e8400 at 4.0 or better + a 9800GX2 or 2x8800gts sli will give you higher FPS. the increase in frames will come more with grfix cards than cpu's

yeah but right now his 8800 gt is bottlenecked by his 2.2 ghz single core amd cpu. so that should eliminate that and let me actually OC his rig.

Q6600 if he is building for Age of Conan.

This question was asked on their website:

Q: Is the game optimized for quad core or is it just dual core?

PÃ¥l: The more cores you have, the better it will run.

Not sure if you will see that big of a difference vs an e8400 @ 4.0 - Q6600 @ 3.6 even if the game is opti for Quads

I would go with the Quad just for GP

i think ima sped a few more bucks and pick up the q6700 G0. just due to the 10x vs 9x multi.

and if you order it anywhere but newegg you can find it for 290.

heres what i think were getting. we had about a 500$ budget give or take.

http://store.yahoo.com/directron/pvs24g6400llk.html

i cant remember the 4 gb problem. i thought 32 bit recognized 3 gb, but still uses 4?

i dont feel like trying to get a 64 bit vista. still too many programs that dont work well with it(i use lots of open source and such)

32bit windows will use about 200mb tops from the last gb that you have for ram. Thats pretty much it, Most of the other stuff is used by windows etc for mundane things etc etc
