Freskish issues with a Q6600

Thread Starter
Hello world.

I'm having some weird issues with my q6600 (It's not exactly brand spanking new, but I've not had the time to do a proper overclock till now).
To put it bluntly, it simply refuses to go beyond stock speeds. I tried increasing the FSB by just 5 mhz, and it failed to post properly.

I tried it on my older motherboard as well (An Asus P5N-E SLi) and in that case, it was unable to go beyond 2,7 ghz.

Any suggestions would be nice... But I'm thinking I hit a bad batch here

The power management features which reduce voltage and speed can and will screw with OCing

All of that has been turned off.

But even if they were turned on, wouldn't you think a 5 mhz overclock would be possible?

Just bump the voltage up a little bit and see if it will go then. It might not answer your question, but it would still solve your problem if it worked.

I overclock with power saving on.

No problems here with that.

what voltage/temps were you running your previous OC that was stable??

If im reading this correct, this is all on a new mobo, aside from you swapping it bac to the orig and not being able to get past 2.7.....

I have the same mobo as you and a similar cpu I guess with it being a 45nm

What vcore do you have?

What divider is the memory on?

What voltage for the memory?

What timings for the memory?

I tried all vCore settings from 1.30 ("Normal" in BIOS) to 1.52 and stopped there, because the oc was too small to warrant such an increase in voltage.

When the system successfully posts, memory is on a 2:3 divider, running 5-5-5-18 at 1.8 volts

When using the P5N-E SLi i was able to reach 2,7 with no increase in vCore, but it as well stopped posting when i went past that magical border, no matter how much juice i gave it.

What is the ram running at? With the divider, do you already have it running really high? Because if you do, even all small bump will push the ram past it's threshold.
