4 pin or 8 pin?

Thread Starter
My motherboard has two 4 pin slots for CPU power, but one is simply blocked off by a little cap, so i just use one 4 pin slot. I have had some instability with this board and was starting to think it was junk but could this be the problem?

Im reluctant to try it without any advice couse maybe ill fry something lol.

With quads, you should be using 2 4-pin cables. I remember reading a Quad review, where the 4-pin socket burned while overclocking, as they were only using 1 4-pin cable, and the wires couldn't handle the current. (More wires = less current per wire = wires don't melt).

probably wont make your rig boot faster (i might be wrong) but always use the 8 pin connection if you can, especially if with a power hungry rig like yours (ie quad). 8 pin provides a more stable supply to the motherboard afaik.
