need oppinions on what to do(vga):o

Thread Starter
just got a new monitor. max res is 16xx*10xx. i have a 8800gts oc2 320mb. which works perefectly, but i cant max everything out with out stutter/lag in cod4.
my question is what would be better to do?

1 get a nother 320 and sli
2 get a vga with 512mb

please give reasons why i should go with either option

if i purchase a card with 512mb it will be a 9600 or 8800. yes i am aware that the 8800gt/gts is better than the 9600

Well if you want a reasonable upgrade from that you should be looking at the 8800GTS G92. If it was up to me I'd just get a new cpu and mobo though...

hi, i run everything on 1680 x 1050 and with my recent upgrade to an 8800GT 512mb ive noticed no stutter or lag whatsoever in call of duty 4, rainbow six vegas 2, and need for speed prostreet (only games ive been playing lately) (full high settings and AA on all all). its a great card and its gotten dirt cheap in my opinion. if you want a bit more of an Omph id recommend the 8800GTS G92 512mb. happy gaming!

(cpu could cause a bottleneck but its not like your running a p4 1.8ghz so your safe.)

so would 2x 320mb stop my game from lagging at 16xx * 10xx?

I would say probably it may, but not much. Because the amount of memory is still the same in sli. Higher resolutions require more video memory. But is it really worth upgrading just for a little lag. I doubt a 9600gt would see a huge improvement, best would prob be a g92 8800gt preferrably a 8800gts g92. Or just hold out for newer core revisions on the 98xx series. Or the ati 48xx series.

Probable you run out of framebuffer with your low memory when you apply higher AA.

Here´s quote from Hardocp when they tested 9800GTX SLI.

"The XFX GeForce 9800 GTX SLI seemed to choke at 2560x1600 when we tried to enable AA levels higher than 2X. However, GeForce 8800 GTX SLI was very smooth at 4X AA at 2560x1600. The higher framebuffer capacity and memory bandwidth on the GeForce 8800 GTX seems to be advantageous for this game at the higher resolutions with AA."

I figure you have to go with 8800GTS 512 at least if you wanna push high AA.

Get an 8800GTS 512mb
A 9600GT would probably work too
An 8800GT would work but the stock cooler is kinda bad
