Keep Apogee GT or get a Dtek Fusion?

Thread Starter
I already have an MCP 655 pump and an Apogee GT WB (with lapped base). I am currently runnig 1/2" tubeing and will either upgrade to a 360 GTX or P120.3 rad. The only problem I am having is if I should ditch the Apogee GT and get the Dtek Fusion with a nozzle kit and Pro 775 mount? Is it worth the $100 upgrade over my current Apogee GT?

If funds are not an issue go with the upgrade. You could just bow the GT. From the standpoint of price for performance, $100 more for a few extra degrees as opposed to $0 for what you already have is not really worth it.

It will only be 1-3C difference at most... worth is subjective.
Once again...

Thanks,

I am only planning on running 1.48v vcore max on a quad core. I am switching to the BB Rocketfish and wanted to upgrade the rad and Dtek originally. But the rad is $139, so another $100 for a 2-3°C just seemed too much.

Thanks again to both of you for the feedback.

If you have the money, go for it. But, like they said, I'd bow it and go for the rad like you were planning

I would like nothing more then to get the Dtek! I do have the money (kind of), but thought it could be spent on other upgrades, like some chipset coolers or something.

First is always to determine your objectives. you may gain more with bowing, changing your TIM, lapping your IHS, or a combination of the above.

On the radiator, Martin should have more tests soon, and then you may have a more objective way to judge noise vs. cooling, and the incremental improvment in cooling.

Yeah I've been watercooling for about a year now (went through 3 setups already) and know that all the 1-2°C improvements really add up in the end. I usually run my fans at about 25dB (Silverstone 120mm at their lowest setting), so silence is important to me. I guess with the high end rad and pump, I would only really see a 3°C max difference if I switched to the Dtek. But if I am switching the system over, why not go for the best?
Therein lies the dilema...

Then you would want to do the D-tek with the 3.6mm nozzle, possibly putting two pumps in series to get the flow back up. And use the best TIM.

I imagine before the end of the year, we will see new CPU water blocks across the board: Swiftech, EK, Thermalright, and possibly D-tek.

What does it mean when someone says to "bow" it?
