... yes!... and I don't know what PSU you would need... at least 800w
post #3 of 24
Your CPU would probably bottleneck it, and you would probably need a 700W+ PSU with at least 50A on the 12V Rail to be 100% sure it will work. It would help in gaming, not so much in Photoshop or Video editing, as far as I know. What resolution monitor are you on? If it's a Hi-red (1600 x 1200 or higher) then the SLI will give you a bigger boost than at lower resolutions.

For Photoshop and Gaming, I would say get a Quad Core first, then worry about SLI later, maybe. Unless you're running at like 2560 x 1600, then definitely get the SLI if you can afford it.

no point in goin SLI with that CPU ... u need at least a q6600 at 3.2ghz to take full advantage of a SLI setup especially with 9800GTX's otherwise u wont see much difference if any ... it would be a EXTREME bottleneck
i get about 11.3k with my sig rig and when i pluged a P4 in at 3ghz i got about 4.2k ... extreme bottleneck.
first of u need a q6600 and then a 750w psu ... like pc power & cooling 750 and after that u can get another 9800GTX

He's at 1920 x 1200, so SLI may give a boost more than Quad Core, especially if AA is involved.

As for the PSU, that should be decent, but look for something in the 700-850 range by Silverstone, PC Power & Cooling, Corsair, or Seasonic if you want really high quality. "MOAR WATTS" isn't necessarily always the way to go.

yes but remember that all the physics in the game are done by the CPU .. so a quad would help alot at that rez

I agree.

Since most games don't use 4 cores, the dualie he has now is fine imo. Just overclock it. People get too hung up on Quad Cores, thinking they solve all your gaming problems. They really don't. I went from a E6600 to a Q6600 and it was a total waste of money. Sometimes clock speed is all you need.
