Firewalls for Joe Public....

Thread Starter
mmmm, ok, i have many fingers inserted into many pies, one of which is computer repair/maintenance. Many of my clients are, although having used PC's for a long time, are COMPLETE NOOBS, really, the majority of my clients are people who have been surfin' the net without anti-virus or firewalls!!(and then they wonder why their PC runs like crap, if atall). So, i was wondering, which firewall is the 'easiest', from an operational point of view, in that i mean if they get a box popping up every time a new connection is needed or a prog tries to make a folder or alter a file they will just keep saying 'yes' to every popup and the like....i tell you this, trying to explain in laymans terms to joe pub how things work is really, REALLY draining/frustrating !!!!!

i would suggest turning on the windows firewall first (the vista firewall is a lot better than the xp version). Also, get a router with one installed my net gear absorbs any incoming connection which didnt originate out of a machine logged on to it. And last people are going to hate this but Norton internet security with the vista update has been really nice. Note if you dont have the update norton is in truth kinda lame but the 08 service pack if you want to call it that fixed a lot of stuff
