So what does the CPU do to assist in games? again my friend said lol, that when you have a GPU, the GPU is the sole runner of the game, and not realy putting much if any load on the cpu.

Whata bout that is true or not true?

the GPU does the graphics, but the CPU does any physics calculations. also from the little i've learned about game development the CPU makes a wire frame image first, then the GPU adds "skins" and effects, but the CPU does most of the math.

So a slow CPU(like mine), can realy hold back a good GPU?

Ok, so imagine you have a three lane highway filled with traffic and there was a part of the road that went to one lane for 2 miles. Then went back to three lane.

Your ram is the three lanes prior to your cpu feeding it data, your cpu is the one lane feeding the data to the gpu. You see the bottleneck that happens in scenario.

It's simple, your processor can not send the data to the gpu fast enough so the gpu ends up idle waiting on the cpu to send the next packet of data.

Big time, when you go to dual core it's like night and day.

Where can i find the model number on my board? I checkout out the model you listed on google and what not, seems like a couple diffrences between the ones I looked at, and my board. most notable the a7v8x-la's i looked at only had 2 ram slots, i have 4, just a couple other placement diffrences as well. dont know if that means anything though

did some research on google for a bit, fond part number ect, then searched the net somemore, It seems to be consistent that the board can support whats below with just changeing out the cpu.

Processor type AMD Athlonâ„¢ 64 X2 dual-core processor (AM2)
AMD Athlon 64 processor
AMD Sempronâ„¢ processor
Level 2 (L2) cache Up to 1 MB per core
Up to 256 KB for Sempron processors

Bu to find out for sure ill go to Microcenter tommrow after work, (they have a very nice return policy) buy a cpu..if it works great, if it wont, then ill start looking at new mobos.

Side note: tryed that clockgen software, pretty cool, i turned up my cpu by 100mhz and my 3d score jumped allmost 300marks

I say buy a new board and CPU. You can stick them in the current case, you know.
