Truly Modular, 800w/70a or >, no top fan psu suggestions?

**EDIT: Top fan is OK actually**

The Antec 500 in my previous pc just took a dump, so I want to use this "opportunity" to push this brand new Antec TPQ 850 to that machine, and get a new psu for this machine (system in profile). There is nothing wrong with this psu other than the fact that its not 100% modular. I dont mind the mobo braid, but this thing has two PCIE-8's and a mobo 8 hanging out of it that arent modular. The rest is modular. I didnt realize that little fact when I bought this, so now its time to make ammends.

Can anyone suggest a top quality, 100% modular psu, with the same or similar specs as the Antec TPQ 850 ? Thanks for your help.

You can do a little bit of cable management to hide the extra cables and you don't need to shell out the money. But, if you really want a new PSU, get one from a reputable name such as Silverstone, Corsair, PC Power & Cooling (I don't think PCP&C make modular ones, though), etc. Here is one by Silverstone: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256011, or another better one by Silverstone: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256022. The idea of the second one is to have only 1 +12 volt rail to minimize power loss. Get the latter one, and I think you will be well off!

Doesn't really matter. A good quality PSU is a good quality PSU, regardless of the number or rails. Those Silverstones are more than nice

yeah they are. apparently from what I have been reading, the single rail is more efficient because of power loss per rail. I just havent decided if I want to replace this Antec 850 for a silverstone, or get busy with the bi-metal hole saw when I take this sucker all apart to install the TRUE backplate. Im not sure I have anywhere to put these three unused, unmodular braids anyway. If I can do that tho, and not replace the curent antec, then I can get a lesser psu (like a 500-600w w/e) for the older machine.

problem is I am in a rush because that other machine is serving storage to my wife's business, and when it died I had to take her hdd and stick it in my case temporarily, until I getthing back up and running. The modding isnt on the calendar atm so I may just opt for the fast full fix (silverstone)

meh...
nonsense... there is no such thing as power loss per rail. If you look at efficiency numbers, you'll see both single rail and multi rail designs with equal efficiency numbers (many over 75% or even 80%).

well maybe I misunderstood, or people are talking *****, but isnt there some concept in electricity where each circuit will have some degree of drift or "loss" in the circuit? If that is the case, then it would make sense that 4 rails with x "loss" each is a higher net loss than one rail. I'm just speculating however. I just write computer code for a living, I'm no electrician so dont quote me on that one

Theoretically, there might be such loss, but in practical terms, it doesn't exist. Note that most multi rail PSUs are actually based on a single rail anyways, and just split later in the process. There actually is no *technical* reason for multi-rail PSUs... Multi rail PSUs were just created to conform to a EU directive which stated that the output on any 12V rail of a PSU should not exceed 20A. This then became part of the ATX 12V standard, but later was dropped again. By then, marketing folks had managed to promote multi-rail PSUs as being 'better', and they're still sticking around.

Any GOOD quality single rail PSU and any GOOD quality multi rail PSU will perform very well, with no difference in efficiency, stability, etc.
