Need more range

Thread Starter
I have this adapter:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833315041

I am looking for something that will give me a little better connection. I would like to stay in the same price range, but I don't mind spending more if it is good. I'm wondering what specs are most relevant in terms of range, so I can look around for myself.

I don't think I can run a hundred feet of ethernet cable through my house. Is there another adapter that has a little better range than mine? I was assuming that some of the more expensive ones would have more range, right?

get a 9dbi high gain antenna for 15$
http://cgi.ebay.com/RP-SMA-2-4GHz-9d...QQcmdZViewItem

the one that comes with that card is probably 2-3 dbi, you should see a considerable difference

does that high gain antenna just replace the one that came with the card? If so, I might want to get a better card and give the other one to my sister. Could someone suggest a card?

yes it does

Also, what router are you using? You might be able to boost the transmission power. You can also upgrade its antennas as well.

I have that card in my wife's pc and I've installed two of those. I do like it because of the antennae with length. Check your router and make sure it's not on limited range, and maybe try changing channels.

Before you spend any money you can make one of

(click the vid and go to more info for the template) . Make one for your router antenna/s and your receiver antenna. If you see no improvement then you should spend some dough on bigger antennas.
