If it's a HTPC, then drop the gts and use the HDMI onboard.

For HTPC, you'll want an ATI based card. HD2600XT or HD3650, 3850 are all good choices. You also shouldn't need ANYWHERE NEAR 4GB of RAM for an HTPC build...although the more the merrier, right? I would do a 2x1GB kit, and the board that has the onboard 3650 with HDMI. That'd be cheaper, and you'd still have the PCIe slot open for later use if your neighbor decided to put it to gaming use (although the 3650 SHOULDN'T do too badly with that either for now).

Just my $0.02.

Why? He probably will end up downclocking it cause it actually will never be fully loaded.

For a HTPC, the 8600GT is redundent and a waste of money/power.

There is no need for 4GB in a HTPC. 2GB is plenty.

Looks good to me, although drop the discrete video card, and just use the onboard video. The onboard is plenty to handle any HD content you can throw at it.

What kind of gaming BTW? Examples of games?

The motherboard support Hybrid Crossfire so getting a HD3450 would be good. You will score around 1100 in 3DMark06 with your configuration at stock. With a HD3450, you should score around 2000. Overclocked, you can hit 3000.
