Dust Problem

Thread Starter
Okay, so where i live, there is ALOT of dust. I have an Antec 900, with an extra fan on the side. I am right now at 3.2ghz with a e6600 and my temps are about 34c with no load. The Zalman to cool my processor is FULL of dust, im wondering. Which is the way u find easiest to clean a zalman? and any recomendations on how to keep my case "clean".

A can of compressed air, vacuum cleaner and some fan filters.

Get a room air filter like one of those hepa filters ones and that will help cut down on dust in the room.

vacuum your room more often! It helps if the vacuum has good filtration

Second question: My 8800 is hot as hell, and im wondering the best way to clean it?
Quick Tips: Q-tips, Canned Air, Regular Maintenance.

Explanation:
Ozzy, I have a similar issue as yours (similar system, as well). I've found that regular maintenance helps. You don't have to go crazy weekly, but once a month or so, you can disconnect your PC, take the tower outside, and can-air the hell outta it. After all, you DID pay big bucks for a nice system, might as well not let it collect dust (pun intended).

For that hard-to-reach stuff (fins on Zalman heat sink) you can use Q-tips to break up the dust, then can-air the rest of it. The only time I saw a dramatic case of dust was in my friends (probably not cleaned in over 3-4 years) PC.

Removed the CPU heat sink.. Literally CAKED with dust. His temps in his poor computer were reaching nearly 80°.... CELSIUS hot damn.

Anyway - you should be fine with that. (Once more, remember the money spent on your investment)

If its a 9500 or 9700 then dismount, remove fan and wash it in the sink.

100% Correct. (Also try putting your case above the ground if possible, to prevent as much dust as you can from getting in (dust settlement on floor))

Oh, and I've also found that putting your CPU on standby (Say after 30 minutes - 1 hour while not in use) will reduce dust amounts SIGNIFICANTLY. Say you're at work for 8-9 hours a day... That's 8-9 hours (unless you plan to be DLing something) that you can prevent dust from being SUCKED into your computer.

Tested and proved by myself. Just something I picked up - others may disagree *shrug*
