Cannot run Ballistix at 1000 with CPU OC...

Thread Starter
I have a set of PC28500 Ballistix stix (2x1GB double sided, New Egg from 2 months ago) that will run at 1000MHz (2.2v) all day long, but only if the CPU is at stock clocks. Once I raise the CPU speed, the rig won't even POST!
The memory is set to unlinked, so the CPU OC shouldn't really affect it, right?
This whole Nvidia thing is getting old...

I had a similar problem with some Ballistix PC 8000 2x1 sticks. 1:1 they would do 1066MHz/4-4-4-12 all day long, but when I OCd the FSB they were not stable at the stock 1000MHz 5-5-5-15. I eventually settled for a lower DDR and tighter timings, running 800MHz 3-3-3-8 1T, which outperformed 1000MHz 5-5-5-15, and was pretty close to 1066 4-4-4-12.

Sometimes getting a good OC can mean a UC on the RAM. I'd say try running tight timings and benchmark VS high MHz to see where the sweet spot is.

Thanks Ravin, i'll give it a go. 3-3-3-8 AND 1T?? I gotta see it to believe it...I assume i need to pump 2.2v into it?
I was in Beaverton a few times, really nice place. I assume you work for a) Intel b) Nike or c) freelancer...

Yup. The first set actually hit 3-3-3-6 1T, and definitely needed 2.20V on both sets. Gotta love the D9GMH IC. I'm still waiting for my 3rd set from RMA- UPS changed my address, moved it 100 blocks west into Aloha's zip code. I don't know what they will be when they get here, I asked for single sided PC/8500 D9HNL modules, and they assured me that I was not eligible for an "upgrade" from my double sided PC/8000 D9GMH modules. There are conflicting reports of what Crucial RMA has in stock.

You'll likely need to push more voltage to your MCH for those wicked sick CAS 3 timings- it's as much of a strain on the NB as it is the RAM. My X38 needs 1.63V to run those speeds, compared to 1.49V for CAS 4.

Right now I'm unemployed, I used to work for an environmental consulting firm downtown Portland.
