Only about 5% of the population would even use 1TB of a HDD. Most people don't need portable storage over 30GB.

I welcome the new storage but i think it is pointless
Trust me, if you have the space, you'll use it, everyone I know with a PC has to delete heaps of stuff, one person even has about 320Gb of songs she downloaded (She never deletes them for some reason when shes sick of them...)

Just a protoype , Also thats way too much storage, and the hard drive will have to work over time, if ya know what I mean. Soo it will get busted very fast. I can't rely on that, as that much space is pointless. even 250GB is way way too much, and yull never fill up the hard drive,,, Hard drive space is over rated. Remember back in the old days if you had a 20GB hard drive u were the talk of the town. Ok lets say each mp3 @ 192kbps and a average size of 8mb , you times that by 5000, your using 40GB ,,, hehe soo ya terabyte and this new tech is junk, theres better things to worry about, like getting a nice solid HD, the higher the space the slower it will perform. 250gb is good range , even 160gb ,, one for OS, and one for backing up purposes or downloads or firefox cache or page file.. etc.... Just the fact that this is not a top vendor tell me it will brake down. whats the use of a hard drive braking down and u only had filled up 140gb maybe. Soo the size capacity is not important. Why not get something stable that will live for 20 years... hmmmm

I have a 250GB hard drive and I have to constantly delete old things to fill it up with new things. some people can fill up terabytes of space EASILY and I'm one of them, I just don't have the cash right now to buy HDD's of that capacity. i'm sure many users on here would LOVE something that huge as long as the seek time wasn't ridiculously long. Just imagine having seemingly endless storage space! it's some people's wet dream (or maybe just mine, correct me if i'm wrong) to have that much space.

Capacity IS important to some people, as is stability, just some people would rather be able to store every anime ever made along with every bluray movie out there on their hard drive just to say that they can.

anyway, just my two cents.

Hmmm, i've got about 1.5 TB of space, and so far I've filled up 1 terabyte, and I'm working on that half. It would be difficult for me to manage with just 160-250GB. It's far from pointless in my point of view. It will probably be very fast too. It's kind of like Bill Gate's famous quote "You will never need more than 640KB of RAM." We see how that developed.

Both with this and the "grid"... I think this new technology could give birth to programs and file types that we have never seen before. It'll be interesting, and I for one welcome the improvement.

I can use a raid of chips .. with the size of a A5 notebook , and collect all the wikipedia, all the documentations of AMD... absolutely everything, without the need to delete any of this to store more...

Storage@home will no longer be needed...

This will NEVER HAPPEN simply because of how it would put all of the HDD storage companies out of business.....

They are not going to start selling massive drives, they are going to slowly increase in size and performance so they milk the most money out of us, the consumer...

Otherwise a whole collection of companies could use just one of these mega drives if every produced and there would never be a need to buy more.

I was more interested in how small it is, if you think about it, at that sort of size the hdd could become so small you will probably be able to slot them onto your mb like a pci device, just smaller, that in my opion is the more useful gain.

Don't be so sure about that. My single 160GB drive has NEVER filled up, and I make no effort to save space.

I download/install what I want and have honestly never used over 105GB before a format (at which point I toss the data on an 80GB external and throw it back on the HDD afterwards).
