Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L hareware installation problem

Thread Starter
First time building a computer. When installing the CPU I took off the black and put the CPU in the slot, definately sure in the right position, but when I to put the metal cover over the CPU it won't go on properly. The etal hatch won't go down fully and is elevated so i can't close the lever thing. My CPU is E4600, but that doesn't really matter.
Did a get a faulty motherboard?

Thanks.

I know you say it's in the correct position and I don't mean to question you but check it again. Look at the bottom of the CPU and you can see how all the connections line up with the actual socket. The CPU as you probably know has to be installed the correct direction. It would be very unlikely that your board has a bad socket mechanism so give it another look.

I did it again, I turned the cpu in all possible 4 positions. But the metal hatch just won't go down properly.

Make sure the notches are lined up. Keep in mind that the latch is made to close with some force.

I did use some force, but the way my motherboard was bending and the force applied to the cpu wasn't making me very happy.

Make sure none of the pins on your motherboard are bent.

If you can a pic might be helpful to see if there are any obvious mechanical problems.

Okies I will try, crappy 5 year old camera that uses AA's.

Sorry for the crappy images and hosting. Imageshack is going weird on me and my camera is just plain old.

Try using the macro mode on your camera (flower icon). Those pictures aren't going to help at all since they're so blurry.
