XFX 790i Ultra Sli worth it or not for 450$?

Thread Starter
Im looking to buy a new mobo to SLi my 8800GTXs and to OC my watercooled Q6600 and go for DDR3. The only mobo available here is 790i ultra sli by XFX for 450$. I was about to buy it but then i saw all those data corruption issues that plagued the 680i, still there in 790i ultra sli!! Is it worth buying this board or wait a month or two and see what nvidia does? Its a lotta money at stake and i dont wanna be stuck with a board which corrupts data on ocing!!

I would just go with the Evga 680i A1 which can provide you with sli and quad core oc'ing support. I'd suggest not investing in DDR3 yet, nehalem is getting closer and closer, and much better ram will be out by that time.

You can get the XFX 790i off of newegg for $320 after rebate.

Also, DDR3 isnt that bad as you can get 2 gigs of 1600Mhz OCZ DDR3 for $210 after rebate

Don't. Data corruption is bad.

If you have multiple GTX just get a 680i board. Or sell them, get a GX2, and a P35 board.

Man im leaning towards the x48 chipsets! I have about 600$ to spend and i want a really great setup right now. It's either the XFX 790i or ASUS Rampage formula/any ddr3 based x48 with my 8800gtx for now and ati crossfire setup later.

The Asus Rampage Extreme X48 is with DDR3.
Im also looking at the Rampage Formula and what i read so far it O/C nicly.
I had the Asus Striker Exterme 680i but after bios update Striker never boot again lol, so I RMA that board with note that I dont wane see it ever again , by the way its my second Striker lol
