Converting MCP 655 to 3/8"

Thread Starter
I am in the pre-setup phase of my watercooling installation. The 3/8" NB block on my Asus Maximus Extreme has caused me to get 3/8" barbs for the rad, the block, and the res. I've tried to plan all of this out, but somehow I managed to miss that the Swiftech MCP655 has 1/2" connectors. As this is the only component left that is not 3/8", what is the most reliable way to convert this thing to 3/8"?

Do you see any problems with just plugging two of these into the MCP655?

Thanks - I just don't want to cause any issues with the setup or put something in there when there is a better solution.

Why didn't you just get those reducers in the first place for the nb?

The initial advice I received on the forum was to keep everything 3/8". I didn't even know there were reliable conversion methods at the time since you guys fiercely recommended not using adapters. Regardless, now I have to introduce some to the setup, unless I replace the 655.

Those reducers will work fine...I would of just used 1/2" barbs on the rest of it, you can get 3/8" tubing over them with a little effort...But still if you are necked down to 3/8" anyway I guess it doesn't matter much.....

3/8 flows OK anyway, I still prefer 1/2" but you have to do what you have to do......The impact of tubing sizes-Cathar

Actually ira-k, I had to order 3/8" barbs for some of the parts because they already had 1/2" on them, so maybe I will try 1/2" and just convert the NB to 1/2" as you suggested. Thanks for the help.

Hey NP...On metal barbs if you soak the end of your tubing in rubbing alcohol for 30 seconds or so they will slide on the barbs a lot easier..For plastic barbs a little glycerin and water will help...You can stretch them out with needle-nose pliers a little to...One thing about it they will fit on the barbs a lot tighter, less chance of leaks that way....
